Dental Fillings In Tooth

What Are Fillings?

White fillings, also known as composite resin fillings, are very popular at iSmile Dental for minor dental problems considered a cosmetic issue. Many patients pick dental bonding for many reasons, primarily because it is far cheaper than the restorative dental procedures and improves the teeth’s appearance quickly.

The Benefits Of White Fillings

Silver fillings, also known as amalgam fillings, were used once upon a time for filling minor cavities. But now, white fillings have been the preferred option of Dr. Alpert because they have a variety of benefits:

  • They are free from mercury.
  • As they are made to match the surrounding teeth in color tone, they effortlessly improve the aesthetic of the teeth.
  • They last a long time, usually between 7 and 10 years.
  • Considerably cheaper than other restorative procedures.
  • One visit is all it takes to complete treatment!
  • It strengthens the tooth by integrating with the cavity, instead of weakening it.
  • Insulation is provided by the filling, giving it sufficient protection from changes in temperature which can result in sensitive teeth.
  • Anesthesia can be used sparingly, depending on the size of the cavity.

Dental Bonding With White Fillings

Improving the appearance of the teeth by filling in a dental cavity with white fillings or repairing a chipped or broken tooth is known as dental bonding. A strong finish is created by the filling material bonding with the teeth. This can result in a lot of dental problems being solved effortlessly, including:

  • Gaps between the teeth.
  • Cracked or chipped teeth.
  • Improving the teeth’s appearance.
  • Strengthening the weaker teeth to last longer.
  • Repairing decayed teeth.
  • Improving the appearance of the teeth by replacing old amalgam fillings.
  • Providing extra protection to teeth that have exposed gums.

The Dental Bonding Process

Upon your visit to iSmile Dental, Dr. Alpert will determine the most important dental problems. Depending on the issue, dental bonding procedures can vary:

Dental cavities are repaired by removing the decayed portion of the tooth first. This is done by drilling into the tooth with a small drill. A small hole is left behind upon removal of the decayed portion. The tooth is prepared by a mild acid solution being etched into it. The composite is made to match the tooth color, placed on by hand, and each layer of the material is hardened by a special curing light. As the filling is then smoothed and polished, this ensures it fits perfectly with the rest of your teeth.

Cosmetic repairs are done in a similar manner, but with composite resin. White filling is used to prepare the broken or chipped tooth. Likewise, gaps in the teeth can be repaired by placing the composite material in between each tooth and cured so it hardens. Afterward, polishing the teeth and checking the bite makes sure that the bonding is comfortable for the patient.
